Amy Sandhofer and Jamie Swansonare twin sisters,
age 29. They both currently live North of Seattle, in
large urban cities. Both girls grew up with an interest
in motorized toys and rode quads on family camping
trips. It was no surprise when both later became
motorcycle riders after meeting their husbands, over
a decade ago. Like many riding partners, these ladies
got tired of the view from the back of the bike. This
Harley-influenced family is raising a new generation
of riders, too.
The twins are mothers to a total of three boys,
ranging from 3 to 7 years old. Jamie’s oldest son
Michael has graduated to his own rides, mastering a
quad, a snowmobile, and a dirtbike! His little brother
Brandon is following in his family’s footsteps; he’s off
to a strong start on his brother’s old quad. Amy’s 3-
year-old son Tyson is content to be squished
between mom and dad on the Harley Heritage Softail
for now, riding with arms out to feel the wind blow by.
From the sounds of this family, he’ll be on two wheels
before he’s in school!
Amy and her husband T.J. own a 2001 Harley
Heritage Softail and a 2004 Sportster XL883. Jamie
owns a Yamaha Virago now, a popular bike for women
due to its low seat height and relatively light weight.
Jamie is an admirer of the fat boy her husband John
rides. Jamie claims 11 years is long enough to wait,
maybe she’ll take that Fat Boy!! Women often become
comfortable first on their riding partner’s bike, then
score the handme-down motorcycles when our
husbands or friendsupgrade. One of the great
benefits of this relationship women have with their
bike’s former owner is she’s always got a friend
nearby who remembers her bike’s distinct character.
As for riding with clubs, Jamie jokes that her
husband John lets her be part of the Cool Kid Club,
sometimes!! Jamie and John did the Oyster Run in
2005 in Anacortes with a large group of friends. They
also rode the Cow Chip Boogie outside of Castle
Rock. However, raising two boys in a family with a
passion for camping, bicycling, snowmobiling, quad-
riding and waterskiing probably doesn’t leave much
time for cruising! Jamie (the taller of the twins) also
enjoys working in Alaska in the summer on her
husband’s yacht and tipping back a few in the bar and
resorts her husband co-owns.
Amy is representing both the Harley Owner’s Group
(H.O.G., one of the largest motorcycle clubs in
America) and Ladies of Harley, a proud chapter of H.O.
G. Amy and her man seem to make more motorcycle
runs overall than Jamie’s family. Amy has ridden the
Isle of Vashon, the Mason Rally, the Oyster Run and
Run For the Border. She’s cruised too many runs to
remember them all!

Thanks for reading, and special thanks to Amy and
Jamie for sharing a slice of their lives! Ride safe!
